Missions Scholarship Program

E-mail: missions@fccf.org

First Christian looks ahead to future ministries by financially supporting Bible college students from our congregation. The amounts of scholarship awards are subject to the elders' approval and are likely to change with each semester. The amounts for Spring 2010 are as follows: freshmen will receive $500 each; sophomores, $600 each; juniors and seniors, $800 each.

The Missions Committee has tried to make the application process as clear as possible. Read this entire web page and use it as a checklist. Click on underlined text to open downloadable or online forms.

The requirements described on this page must be completed each semester for which you wish to apply for a scholarship.

Requirements for receiving a scholarship

Church Membership - You must be an active member of First Christian for at least a year before receiving a scholarship.

Enrollment - You must be enrolled in an eligible Bible college and registered for at least 12 semester credit hours. Consult the Missions Committee if you have a question about the eligibility of your school.

Due dates - The due date for fall semester applications and documents is 31 July. The due date for spring semester applications and documents is 31 December.

Application form - Download, print, and complete a Downloadable Application Form. If you prefer to apply online, use the Online Application Form.

Essay - Write a brief essay (one or two paragraphs) that describes the kind of ministry that you would like to be in after you finish school and how your Bible college education is preparing you for it. You may submit a printout of your essay or you may use the Online Essay Form. If you choose to submit your essay online, we recommend you write it on a separate document, then copy and paste the text into the Online Essay Form.

GPA - Provide verification that your cumulative grade point average is at least 2.500 on a 4.000 scale. A photocopy of your latest grade report or transcript is acceptable, or you may send a digital image of your grade report as an e-mail attachment to missions@fccf.org. If you are about to start college for the first time, send your grades from high school.

Reference - Obtain at least one character reference each semester you apply for a scholarship. The committee recommends that you ask a leader from within FCCF, a teacher, an employer, or a mentor. Do not use the same person as a reference more than once. Print a Downloadable Reference Form. Ask your reference to fill out the form and send it to the Missions Scholarship Program (address below). As a courtesy you could provide your reference with a stamped and addressed envelope. If your reference prefers, he/she may use the Online Reference Form.

Submit your documents - Four documents are required: Application Form, Essay, GPA verification, and Reference Form. Documents may be sent in paper form or by the Internet.

- in paper form. Attach your Essay and GPA verification to your Application Form. If your registrar prefers to send grades directly to the church, provide him/her with the address. Send all paper documents to:

      Missions Scholarship Program
      First Christian Church of Florissant
      2890 Patterson Road
      Florissant MO 63031

If you hand-deliver your documents to the church, place them in the Missions mail slot in the church library.

Sorry, the application handling system is not set up to accept a fax.

Please complete all of the requirements and documents before submitting your application.

- by the Internet. The Application Form, Essay Form, and Reference Form all have online versions (see above). Clicking on "Submit" at the bottom of each online form sends your information to the Missions Committee (unless you receive an error message). Your school's registrar may send your grades by Internet, though he/she may prefer to use regular mail. Or you yourself may e-mail a legible digital image of your grades to missions@fccf.org. Your grade report must show your cumulative GPA.

A final word

As the applicant for a scholarship, you are responsible for ensuring that all documents reach the Missions Committee by the due dates. Don't procrastinate. Allow your registrar and reference plenty of time. If you have a problem meeting the requirements, contact the Missions Committee. We are here to help anyone who makes a conscientious effort.
